At a Glance “A talented artist is not one who was taught to be an artist, but one who was born as an artist” Growing up as a child, Nathaniel discovered he had a natural talent for creating things. At an early age, he created numerous inventions. He designed artwork, cars, clothing, electric gadgets etc.

This creative talent fueled his aspiration to become an artist. Although he has taken numerous art classes, Nathaniel considers himself to be born with artistic talent. Nathaniel received a great deal of his inspiration from some of Jamaica’s leading artists such as Phillip Henry, Ken Spencer and Barrington Watson. Mr. Barnes notes that if he was going to be successful, he needed to devote his time fully to his passion of the arts.  Nathaniel has been involved in various group exhibitions throughout the major cities in Jamaica, West Indies, several Caribbean countries, Canada, and has participated in various art shows throughout the United States. Known for expressing his thoughts through his signature abstract technique, Nathaniel has skillfully mastered the art of various artistic styles. His styles include: Figurative expression, Impression, Landscape, Portrait, Semi-abstract, Black & white and Still life. His works, all created with acrylic on canvas, encompass a variety of moods and experiences.

His paintings often depict a deep sense of emotion that is sometime relative to the circumstance/s in which the viewer might be feeling. Although he has been well known locally throughout the years, he has recently begun to gain greater national exposure by and through the media, and persons whom have shared his works with others. He credits his accomplishments not only from his own hard work, but many artists who have gone before him in helping to pave the way. Mr. Barnes is a member of the Long Island New York Black Artists Association and the Guild Art Group in Jamaica, West Indies.
