A five-month-old baby girl’s death has been ruled a homicide and now the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) is searching for answers.

Brailynn Ford, of the 1000 block of Mosher Street in west Baltimore, was initially taken to the hospital with “trauma to her body,” Oct. 4, when police first saw her.

Three days later, detectives learned she had died from traumatic injuries and her death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.

BPD is not releasing the name of the person whose custody Brailynn was in at the time she was taken to the hospital due to the ongoing investigation, but did acknowledge she lived with her grandparents.

Ford’s grandfather, Damon Wilson Sr, told WBAL-TV that his baby granddaughter “looked like she wasn’t going to come home” when she was at the hospital.

“I was so protective over her and I feel like in the one moment that I should have been protecting her, I couldn’t and there is nothing that I could do,” said Hazel Wilson, Brailynn’s grandmother.

“I need them to find out what happened to my baby; how the injuries occurred, who is the person that did it.”

There has been no confirmation by BPD on the identity of Brailyn’s parents.

There will be a balloon release at the corner of Mosher and Arlington on Oct. 11 in her memory.

Brailyn’s funeral is planned for Oct. 13.
