The holiday spirit can move people to do good things. According to Good Black News, Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack has paid off approximately $80,000 in layaways for Walmart customers in his Florida hometown.

The NFL player, through his Khalil Mack Foundation, made many people’s upcoming holidays much better financially by eliminating the debt they owed to the local Fort Pierce, Florida, Walmart. According to a Walmart spokesperson, he paid off 300-350 accounts, which ended up totaling about $80,000.

As reported on that store’s Facebook account, “We have some wonderful News! If you have an active Holiday Layaway account at your local Ft. Pierce Wal-Mart, your account has been paid off! We here at Walmart would like to thank the Khalil Mack Foundation for your generosity, and for making so many families happy for the holidays! Everyone is truly greatful for everything you have done for them!”

Store manager Mathias Libardi tells TC Palm, “His foundation came to us and said he wanted to be a secret Santa.” Also for the prep football season, the linebacker paid for cleats for all the players at Fort Pierce Westwood High School.

According to Khalil Mack’s website, “Our mission is to positively affect the lives of intercity and under-privileged youth and families by providing for the community, through educational and extra-curricular initiatives, a safe and enjoyable environment where we intend to aid in learning successful character traits through sport, and creating opportunities to financial resources and meaningful experiences to all we serve.”

Khalil Mack is one of the most dominant hybrid edge rusher/outside linebackers in NFL history. After being selected 5th overall in the 2014 NFL draft, Khalil Mack was the first player in NFL history to earn first-team all-pro honors at two different positions in the same year. Khalil Mack was also named defensive player of the year in 2016 and was named to four consecutive Pro Bowls.

In September 2018, Mack was traded to the Bears for two first-round draft picks and signed a six-year, $141 million extension, becoming the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. He is widely recognized as one of the most dominant defensive players currently playing in the NFL.
