The man suspected of killing two people last month in Baltimore County was found and arrested in Louisiana Tuesday morning, according to Baltimore County Police Spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Peach.

Gabrielle Marie Paugh, 26, and 34-year old Aaron Michael Wearins were found shot in August in a home on Wise Avenue in the Dundalk area of Baltimore County.

Both Paugh and Wearins died at area hospitals.

Tavon Powell, 37, has been charged with two counts of 1st degree murder. Baltimore County Police (BCP), believe Powell knew both victims but they have not disclosed specifically how.

According to Officer Peach, BCP received a tip and then contacted local authorities in Louisiana that a suspect they were looking for might be in the area of Kenner.

Units from the U.S. Marshals Office in Louisiana, as well as officers from Kenner Louisiana’s local sheriff’s office, surrounded the home where Powell was believed to be hiding Septemeber 18.

After initially refusing to come out, a SWAT team was called to the location and after a series of conversations between law enforcement and the suspect, Powell surrendered “peacefully and without incident” according to Peach.

Peach said Baltimore County would be sending a detective down to Louisiana “to further the investigation into the murders of Paugh and Wearins.”

It is not yet known why Powell chose to flee to Louisiana.

Powell will be extradited back to Maryland after matters in Louisiana are worked out, said Peach.
