Pictures at an Exhibition presents images of one notable show every weekday.

Today’s show: “Maia Lynch: In Between” is on view at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston through Sunday, September 16. The solo exhibition presents works the American artist completed during a fellowship that allowed her to travel to Shikoku, the smallest of Japan’s four main islands and her mother’s birthplace. The region has been described by “Nobel Prize–winning author Kenzaburo Oe as ‘a peripheral, marginal, off-center region of [a] peripheral, marginal, off-center country,’ ” according to exhibition materials.
