The latest NPR analysis of the Electoral College shows presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden with a 297-170 advantage over President Donald Trump.
With three months to go until the election, Trump appears to be at his lowest point politically. Millions of Americans disapprove of his handling of the coronavirus pandemic; and response to race relations following the police killing of unarmed Black Americans. As such, several states are shifting in Biden’s favor, per NPR.
Here’s what the outlet noted as the changes:
- Colorado from lean Democratic to likely Democratic
- Florida from toss-up to lean Democratic
- New Hampshire from toss-up to lean Democratic
- Nevada from toss-up to lean Democratic
- Pennsylvania from toss-up to lean Democratic
- Georgia from lean Republican to toss-up
Biden is also beating Trump by 4 points in Ohio, a crucial swing state, according to a poll released on Monday.
“No Republican has ever been elected or reelected in American history without carrying Ohio, so there’s a particular burden on Trump and his allies and supporters to compete effectively in Ohio,” John Green, director emeritus of the Bliss Institute told The Toledo Blade. “These numbers forecast a very competitive race in the state.”
Joe Biden plans to grow and strengthen Black-owned small businesses in Ohio and nationwide, theGrio previously reported. Through his Build Back Better and Lift Every Voice plans, Biden will invest billions in the resources Black small business owners can leverage to drive their own success.
The former vice president will ensure access to credit and capital for Black businesses by doubling funding for community development financial institutions (CDFIs) and the state small business credit initiative that funds local lending. Biden will improve and expand the small business administration programs that most directly serve Black-owned small businesses, including the small business development centers, the SBA Microloan Program, and the 7(a) loan program.
Meanwhile, if the Biden-leaning states continue to favor the former vice president, he would bag enough electoral votes to win the 2020 presidency come November, according to the NPR report.
Meanwhile, Biden previously vowed to name his running mate by now. The Washington Post is reporting, however, that he has delayed his choice by two weeks.
According to the Post, the delay has potentially pitted the women against each other as they campaign for the position. Of the six women still believed to be on Biden’s list – Sen. Kamala Harris, former national security advisor Susan Rice, California Rep. Karen Bass, Florida Rep. Val Demings, Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, four are African-American.
