In 1961, Dr. Margaret Burroughs and a group of educators and scholars founded what would become the nation’s first independent African American History Museum.

2016 marks the 55th anniversary of the DuSable Museum of African American History and our RadioThon started the Museum’s year-long fundraising campaign which will help preserve history. Membership keeps the legacy of education and enlightenment flourishing for generations to come. Membership is the lifeblood of the Museum.

From 6:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 30th, local celebrities, sports figures, community activists and members of the DuSable Board of Trustees will took to the airwaves to invite listeners to become DuSable Museum Members. As a special incentive during the RadioThon, all new members received a two-year membership for the price of one year. In addition, DuSable Museum Memberships offer reciprocal membership at the following institutions: The Adler Planetarium, The Chicago History Museum, The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Illinois Holocaust Museum & Educational Center.

The DuSable Museum of African American History gratefully acknowledges the Chicago Park District’s generous support of the Museum.
