We’re adding a little POP to Black History Month by honoring pop icon Jean-Michel Basquiat!

The neo-expressionist American painter portrayed social commentary in his work in order to have individuals looking at the painting question themselves. He was also known for highlighting societal dichotomies.

Basquiat’s life took a change when he went from being homeless to selling a painting for $25,000. Today, his work still holds an art auction record high at a price of $110,500,000.

Jean-Michel Basquiat also had quite the social life, whether it was appearing in Blondie’s music videos, collaborating with Andy Warhol or dating Madonna! Watch the video below to get the tea.
