The Chicago Architecture Biennial has revealed 51 artists, architects, collectives, and researchers participating in its 2019 exhibition, which is titled “…and other such stories” and slated to take place from September 19, 2019, to January 5, 2020. More contributors and programs will be announced in the coming months, according to a release put out by the biennial.

This year’s Chicago Architecture Biennial is organized by artistic director Yesomi Umolu and co-curators Sepake Angiama and Paulo Tavares. The exhibition will focus on architecture’s relationship to land, memory, and civics, as well as the urban history of Chicago. Wolff Architects, Theaster Gates, FICA–Fundo Imobiliário Comunitário para Aluguel, MASS Design Group, Maria Gaspar, and Adrian Blackwell are among those who have been commissioned to create new projects for the event.

Umolu said in a statement, “Our initial list of contributors comprises practices and projects that resonate deeply with our four curatorial focus areas. We are especially proud to commission a series of new projects that address some of the most pressing issues of our time while advancing new forms of thinking and practice across the field of architecture and beyond.”

“This talented group of contributors represent a strong cross section of architects, artists, collectives and researchers who add to the cultural fabric of their communities around the world, and right here in Chicago,” Rahm Emanuel, Chicago’s mayor, said in a statement.
