During the whirlwind of fairs, exhibitions, and happenings that take over the week of Art Basel Miami Beach, ARTnews staged a number of events with denizens of the international art world.

On Tuesday night at the Betsy Hotel, ARTnews combined its recurring feature “The ARTnews Accord” and its annual “Top 200 Collectors” list for “The Top 200 Accord.” Two collectors on this year’s Top 200, Suzanne Deal Booth and Komal Shah, joined editor-in-chief Sarah Douglas and Frieze Los Angeles executive director Bettina Korek for a lively conversation about art collecting on the West Coast.

On Thursday afternoon at the Edition hotel, ARTnews executive editor Andrew Russeth sat down for a conversation with three artists with work on view during the week: Zoë Buckman, Vaughn Spann, and Sarah Bahbah. Tackling the topic of how art is being used as a platform to influence current issues, the panelists discussed how they engage with questions of representation and politics in their work, and how they operate in a political world.

On Friday night at the Surf Lodge (in residence at the Confidante in Miami Beach) was a marquee event held in collaboration with the National YoungArts Foundation in support of Inside Out Miami—a project for which the artist JR invited people to have their photographs taken in a mobile photo booth for an installation aimed at raising awareness around the importance of art education for young artists in the city. The unveiling party for Inside Out Miami featured guests like Rosario Dawson and Gaia Matisse enjoying a performance by hip-hop star Lil Wayne, who rapped vintage classics along with tracks from his new album Tha Carter V.
