espnW and the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy are partnering to create a one-of-a-kind experience for young female athletes. The Julie Foudy & espnW Sports Leadership Academy will combine world-class on-field coaching across multiple sports, while providing empowering leadership and life skills off the field. The Julie Foudy & espnW Sports Leadership Academy experience will focus on the specific needs and interests of young girls today, including the importance of developing confidence and self-esteem, finding their voice, discovering their passions, and giving back to the community.

The Academy will take place July 7-11, 2019 at The Peddie School in Highstown, N.J. The four-night, five-day residential experience will feature soccer, basketball and lacrosse. Coaches for each of the sports are among the best to have ever played: Foudy will lead soccer, Tamika Catchings, four-time Olympic gold medalist and WNBA All-Star, will lead basketball, and Jen Adams, four-time NCAA Champion and head coach of Loyola University Maryland, will lead lacrosse. Registration details for the Academy can be found at JulieFoudyLeadership.com.

“All of us at the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy are truly ecstatic to be joining forces with espnW,” Foudy said. “Both the Academy and espnW have been huge influences in my life for the past decade, so to bring them together to help young women grow and unleash their leadership potential is a dream come true.”

In addition to fun on and off the field, Foudy will be recording a live episode of her hit new podcast, “Laughter Permitted with Julie Foudy,” presented by Ally, a leading digital financial services company. This is Ally’s first year as a sponsor of both the Academy and Laughter Permitted.

“espnW has always been dedicated to young women and enhancing the power of sports in their lives,” said Laura Gentile, ESPN senior vice president, marketing. “This perfect partnership with Julie and the JFSLA is all about inspiring girls to excel and become the next generation of powerful leaders.”

The Academy will also be partnering with Mindshare’s Project YouDoYou, a media and advertising industry initiative focusing on GenZ young women. PYDY’s goal is to lift GenZ girls up through inspirational content and experiences – enabling them to take meaningful action and make the world a better place as future leaders of society.

Foudy is a former captain of the U.S. women’s soccer team and won two Olympic gold medals and two World Cup titles during her almost two decades with the national team. She is now an analyst and reporter for ESPN and espnW, and most recently covered the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi.

About The Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy
The JFSLA was founded with one question in mind: how can we share our leadership skills training with young athletes looking to unlock their potential for greatness both on AND off the playing field? Using soccer & lacrosse as the conduit, the JFSLA provides a challenging week of self-discovery, team building techniques, peer awareness and understanding, a college preparatory curriculum, and intense soccer and lacrosse training.

The JFSLA is part of the Julie Foudy Leadership Foundation, whose goal is to provide young women in the United States and around the world the opportunity to experience unique leadership training and then support their leadership efforts. The Foundation continues to target communities and regions in which the opportunity for organized leadership training is missing. The Foundation also aims to support organizations with similar philosophies toward leadership and sports.
