ESPN Ranked in Top Five for 13 Straight Years, No. 1 among Men who are Potential Cord Cutters

In Beta Research Corp’s annual Cable Subscriber Study, cable and telco TV, ESPN ranked first or statistically tied for first on percent of adult and male viewers rating the network as a 5 on a 5-point “must have” network scale (where 5 means “it’s a must have channel on your channel line-up” and 1 means “it’s a channel not at all needed on your channel line-up”).

ESPN was the No. 1 or statistically tied for No. 1 network in perceived value by network viewers who are men, adults 18-34 and 18-49, and total adults with household income $100,000+.

On percent of viewers age 18+ mentioning the network as a top five favorite basic network, ESPN ranked first, tied for first or statistically tied for first 13 years in a row from 2006 to 2018.  ESPN was ranked as the No. 1 favorite network among men, adults 18-49 and 25-54, adults with household income $100,000+, and men who are potential cord cutters.  Among male network viewers and adult viewers 25-54, ESPN ranked first for being important to the enjoyment of cable.

Results from the June 2018 Beta Cable Subscriber Study were generated from an online survey across a national sample of cable TV and telco TV subscribers. The purpose of the study was to determine viewer satisfaction of basic cable networks, their importance to enjoyment of cable, their perceived value, the favorite basic networks, program quality of basic networks and a sampling of basic networks (percent viewing past 12 months).
