Courtenay Finn has been appointed chief curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland. Among Finn’s duties at the museum will be overseeing a new Gund Foundation–funded curatorial fellowship that will offer an emerging curator from an underrepresented arts community a two-year term at MOCA.
Jill Snyder, the museum’s executive director, said in a statement, “We anticipate her unique vision and international reputation will support our efforts to advance MOCA’s global profile, while her familiarity and passion for Cleveland will be the catalyst for new collaborations within the region.”
Finn joins MOCA after her time with the Aspen Art Museum, where she served as senior curator since 2014. Among the shows she curated there were solo exhibitions for artists such as Mickalene Thomas, Yto Barrada, and Haris Epaminonda; she is currently working on a Margaret Kilgallen show.
In a statement, Finn said, “Cleveland shaped my formative belief in the power of art and fostered my commitment to being an active and engaged advocate for artists. I am looking forward to immersing myself in Cleveland’s vibrant, rich, and culturally diverse communities, and actively participating in a larger dialogue about the role that artists and MOCA can play within the city.”
