CNN claimed in an April tweet that it doesn’t air its presidential candidate town halls for ratings, and instead produces them because “it’s the right thing to do.”

That’s a good thing.

On Tuesday night, CNN hosted its latest town hall, this time with 2020 Democratic political hopeful Beto O’Rouke, and the early ratings are the some of the lowest the ratings-challenged cable news network’s town halls have seen.

O’Rourke’s town hall (10-11:15 pm ET) CNN delivered 714,000 average viewers and 194,000 in the key age demographic 25-54, according to early Nielsen Media Research numbers.

Fox News Channel delivered 2,260,000 viewers and 362,000 in the age 25-54 during the same time period, while MSNBC delivered 2,196,000 and 315,000 age 25-54.

FOX NEWS’ BERNIE SANDERS TOWN HALL VIEWING NUMBERS BEAT CNN AND MSNBC COMBINED

O’Rourke’s ratings were way below Kamala Harris‘ CNN January 28 town hall — which brought in almost 2 million viewers to the network — and worse even than their March 27 town hall with Corey Booker, which drew in under a million viewers.

Meanwhile, FNC’s town hall with Bernie Sanders on April 15 drew in 2,554,000 viewers and 489,000 in the age group 25-54. And FNC’s town hall with presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg dominated the cable news landscape this past Sunday night.

MSNBC attracted only 621,000 average viewers during the same time period (7 pm ET) and CNN wound up with only 447,000 viewers.
