Monday Night Countdown (ESPN / Monday, Nov. 18 / 6-8 p.m. ET)

Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Michael Davis grew up in Glendale, Calif., the suburban Los Angeles city, where his mother, Ana Martinez, wanted him to have a strong connection to her native country, Mexico. Martinez fostered Davis’ connection to Mexico with visits each year to the country and Spanish-language proficiency. (Preview)

“I wanted him to know Spanish because I wanted him to communicate with my family members,” says Martinez.

Summers in Mexico City for Davis also meant he fell in love with soccer, rooting for and dreaming about playing the goalkeeper position for El Tri – the Mexican National Team – at the famed Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. On the international edition of Monday Night Football (Chargers vs. Chiefs, 8 p.m. ET), the 24-year-old will be in Azteca playing a different sport.

Ahead of the game, Davis, shares the story of his roots, his love for Mexico, and the pride of playing in Azteca as an ambassador of American football in Mexico.

Producer: Kris Schwartz; Narrations – Michelle Beisner Buck (English) and Eric Gomez (Spanish)
