RAFAEL RONCATO/COURTESY GALERIA LUISA STRINA, SÃO PAULO, AND KUBIKGALLERY, PORTO

Pictures at an Exhibition presents images of one notable show every weekday.

Today’s show: “Beto Shwafaty and Pedro Vaz: after the shock, the tropics” is on view at Galeria Luisa Strina in São Paulo through Saturday, May 12. The two-person exhibition, presented in collaboration with Kubikgallery in Porto, Portugal, seeks to put contemporary Brazilian and Portuguese art in dialogue. Shawfaty, who is based in São Paulo, presents abstract paintings and an installation, while Vaz, who was born in Mozambique shortly after it gained independence from Portugal and is now based in Lisbon, offers sculptural works and a text-based wall installation.
