Art Beijing 2019 – A Locally-Based and Asia-Oriented Art Fair

Established in 2006, Art Beijing has become one of the top art and exhibition brands in all of Asia. In a continually changing industry, it continues to adapt to market trends and further de­fine its position, carrying expectations and hopes.

Coming back for its 14th edition this spring, Art Beijing 2019 will bring together contemporary art, classic art, design art and public art. It will welcome some 190 selected exhibitors from 20 countries and regions, presenting a panorama of China’s art market centering on Beijing. In addition to the diverse selection of galleries, the fair will present numerous thematic exhibitions, showing it constantly progresses in attitude, quality and services.

Special Programs

Within the special programming is a thematic exhibition on The Charm of Printmaking, an art form which has always had independent artistic value and important position in China’s history of fine arts. Organized with the Printmaking Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), it will bring together works by 30 contemporary artists, while educating the public on the huge potential and advantages of the reproduction of printmaking works as well as bringing more possibilities for the collection and consumption of artworks.

Presented as part of Photo Beijing, a sub-brand of the fair with a history of 11 years, the exhibition In the Silence of Butterfly will showcase possibilities brought by the constant change of technology for image art. Organized with the Butterfly Effect Art Center, the exhibition will bring together 10 artists who will present numerous patterns and styles of expression and discuss the possibility for the art of photography to enter life.

Working with Instituto Cervantes de Pekín, Danish Cultural Center Beijing Hungarian Cultural Institute, and the Embassy of Mexico in China, the fair will also host the exhibition Art! World and a series of talks with an aim to facilitate the popularization and exchange of art and culture of all countries. The show will allow visitors to get close to the cutting-edge foreign culture and art and assume the mission of art education and dissemination.

Public Art

The theme of Art Beijing 2019 ARTPARK dedicated to public art will be Fairyland, referring to a fantastic scenario which is similar to the changes of the universe and the thinking and creation of art.

All realities are generated from your mind. The reality is the sum of constantly generated phenomena that we experience in the changes.

The presentation will explore how artists convert their subjective creation into works of more spiritual qualities of the times in the new scenario and public domains. It will bring together 21 pieces of public artworks in different forms created by 17 artists, demonstrating the forms of works to be presented in the future domains on different dimensions. As the organizers explain, the ontological thinking of “I think, therefore I am” drives the progress of civilization, and similarly “magically” generates the possibility of diversity.

Design Beijing

Presented in Hall 5 under the motto “Art • Design • Life”, Design Beijing explores the possibilities of breaking the boundaries between these categories, allowing art and design to return to life. The theme of this year’s exposition is Design for Ourselves, involving care and expectation, self-awaking and self-expression. The section will demonstrate the creativity of design in contemporary life from multiple perspectives including food, clothing, housing and transportation.

Practical Information

Art Beijing 2019 will take place at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center in Beijing, in Halls 1, 3, 5 and 11, from April 30th until May 3rd, 2019. The VIP Preview (for VIP card or invitation holders only) will take place on April 30th, from 6 to 10 p.m.

The doors of the fair will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 6 pm. on Friday.
