  • Largest creative endeavor ever by ESPN’s creative team
  • Creative elements celebrate identity of all 15 ACC institutions

ESPN revealed the creative elements and animation package for ACC Network (ACCN), the new, 24/7 national platform launching on August 22, 2019, at ACC Kickoff in Charlotte, N.C. The scope and range of this new network package is the largest endeavor ESPN’s Creative Services Team has tackled to date.

“I have never seen an animation package that is so interesting, complicated, risky and exciting,” said Amy Rosenfeld, ESPN senior coordinating producer and production lead for ACCN. “The ACCN animations are emblematic of the conference itself, with an emphasis on the intelligent complexity of engineering coupled with the vibrancy of diversity. We are very proud to represent the ACC and ACCN with this unique and innovative branding.”

Celebrating the league’s athletic and academic excellence, ACCN’s visual language captures the innovative, dynamic and future-forward characteristics of the ACC. Every element created is designed to celebrate the identity of the league’s 15 schools, its sponsored sports, and the new original programming created specifically for ACCN.

The ESPN Creative Services leadership team of Carol Boyle (senior creative director), Tim O’Shaughnessy (creative director), Dale Harney (art director), Mark Groeschner (senior managing producer), Marissa Mangino (lead producer) and Dana Drezek (lead producer) collaborated with Los Angeles based Troika Design Group to dive deep into each school brand and create expansive “Team Worlds” that use school language, patterns and visuals that resonate with fans.

The grid-based design system uses a collection of puzzles and patterns to inject fandom into the visual end product. The look is refined with clever brand integrations and orchestrated motion.

ACCN theme music matches the innovative animation package as it provides a big, energetic, propulsive sound. The ESPN Music team, led by Senior Director of ESPN Music Claude Mitchell and music coordinator Caitlin DelVillano, partnered with Yessian Music to compose the new ACC theme that gives a modern twist to traditional sports.
